Inspiration and wonderful view down to Breitlauenen

Schynige Platte – Top of Swiss Tradition

26.05.22 - 23.10.22 Breitlauenen, located halfway between Wilderswil and the Schynige Platte, is a special place: steep pastures, rocks, Lake Thun, Lake Brienz and mountain ranges. Such natural spectacles suited the tastes of Swiss painter Ferdinand Hodler precisely. As a mountain railway fan of the first hour, he travelled several times on the Schynige Platte Railway to Breitlauenen. There he found a perfect spot for his themes. If you stand a few metres away from the train station on the Ferdinand Hodler vantage point, you will understand why. And if later you have a hankering for something tasty, the pretty bistro at the train station has the best homemade fruit tart in the Bernese Oberland. Allow around 45 minutes for the journey from Interlaken to Breitlauenen. Arriving With the Bernese Oberland Railway or by car to Wilderswil. The historic Schynige Platte Railway runs across the Breitlauenen Alp to the Schynige Platte. Journey time from Wilderswil: around 1 hour.
